The John Junor Library

The John Junor Library, through its resources, facility and staff, is dedicated to providing open access to information and to offering the services and tools with which to locate and interpret that information.

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Library is to provide the learning resources and services in support of the mission of the Sigma College of Nursing and Applied Sciences. This purpose is accomplished by providing:

  • A wide variety of print and non print materials which enhance the curriculum needs of the college community.
  • Bibliographic instruction to assure expeditious and accurate use of information resources available within the library and accessible to the library through other means.
  • An environment which promotes quality learning and implements changing technology through its staff, facilities, and programs.

Vision

The John Junor library seeks to play an integral role in providing access to physical and virtual material from any destination to enable educational advancement.

Mission

The John Junor Library aims to support the mission of the College by acquiring, organizing, managing, and providing access to information of the highest quality to the College to excel in education by:

  • Providing access using information technology
  • Exposing the College by providing the most current information possible
  • Creating the ambience that constantly supports educational development
  • Fostering an appreciation for the arts, science, and technology
  • Providing a well trained staff dedicated to service

Our Collection

The library’s collection is arranged using the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme (DDC), 000-900. This includes journals, books/Ebooks, DVD/CD’s, magazines, brochures, pamphlets and newspaper clippings articles. The collection is divided into the following sub-divisions:

  • Reference Collection - Reference sources include dictionaries, encyclopedias, audio visuals, technical and general scientific sources; these resources can only be consulted in the library and are not available for loan.
  • Nursing and Applied Sciences Collection – The materials located in this collection are for general lending and can be borrowed for up to two (2) weeks.
  • General Collection - The materials in the general collection are located close to the nursing and applied sciences collection. This collection includes fiction and non-fiction books. The materials are for loan and can be borrowed for up to two (2) weeks.
  • Audio Visual Collection - The materials located in this collection are for general lending and can be borrowed for up to two (2) weeks.
