Purpose Of Data Collection and Use
Sigma College of Nursing and Applied Sciences (the College) takes its data protection responsibilities seriously. The aim of this Policy is to secure and protect logical data stored, consumed and managed by the College. The College obtains, uses, stores and otherwise processes personal data relating to potential staff and students (applicants), current staff and students, current and former workers, contractors, website users and contacts (data subjects).
How The Data Will Be Used
The data will be used or disclosed so far as is necessary in connection with the respective courses or business of the College.
How The Data Will Be Disclosed
The College must not disclose personal data — for example, to students’ parents or sponsors — without proper written authorisation from the data subject (subject to the Access to Information Act and matters of public interest). Once a request for authorised access has been made, personal data must not be altered, blocked or concealed.
How Long Will the Data Be Kept
Hard-copy personal data is retained for seven (7) years. Once the College has confirmed a file has been scanned, the paper copy is destroyed by shredding or incineration.
Legal Basis for Processing the Data
When processing personal data, the College is obliged to fulfil individuals’ reasonable expectations of confidentiality by complying with the Jamaica Data Protection Act, 2020.
